Let us know you're coming

It began with a badly‑timed forehand.

Two years on, we're asking the people we love most to come and stand with us in a forest in Uttarakhand for two days in December.

The baraat leaves from Lucknow on the Saturday. Everything we know so far is on this page, and we'll keep adding to it as the dates get closer — so do come back. For now, the one thing that would really help us is knowing whether you can make it.

Our story

One

The match

A Sunday evening, a full court, and two people who had not yet met.

Illustration: a doubles pickleball match at sunset

Two

The accidental hit

Harsh went for a winner. Rhea took it squarely on the shoulder. The rally ended there — everything else started.

Illustration: the ball catches Rhea mid-court while Harsh reaches out in alarm

Three

The sweet apology

One bar of chocolate, offered with the most sincere face he could manage. Accepted — eventually.

Four

Becoming friends

The games kept happening. So did the long conversations on the bench afterwards.

Five

Falling in love

Somewhere between the walks and the coffees, neither of us was pretending it was about pickleball any more.

Six

The proposal

He asked. She said yes. The ball, mercifully, was nowhere in sight.

The celebration

Two days in the forest

Everything happens at Debu's The Fern Resort. Rooms are held from the Saturday through to checkout on Monday morning, so you needn't rush away.

Getting there

Lucknow to Corbett

Most of the family will travel together with the baraat on the Saturday morning. If you'd rather make your own way, here's the shape of it.

~400 km

By road

Lucknow to Ramnagar is around 400 km and takes about nine hours with one proper break, via Sitapur, Shahjahanpur, Bareilly, Rampur and Bazpur.

The baraat travels together — say so on your RSVP if you'd like a seat rather than driving yourself.

Ramnagar

By train

Ramnagar (station code RMR) is the railhead for Corbett, about 15 km from the park gates and a short drive from the resort.

Tell us your train and arrival time on your RSVP and we'll arrange a pickup.

Pantnagar

By air

Pantnagar is the nearest airport at roughly 100 km, but flights there are cancelled often enough that we wouldn't rely on it.

If you're flying in from further afield, Delhi is the dependable choice, then drive.

The baraat's departure time from Lucknow is still being fixed. Arrival at the resort is 11 am on the Saturday, so it will be an early start — we'll confirm the time here and by message.

Where we're staying

Debu's The Fern Resort & Spa

Everyone stays on site — the ceremonies, the meals and the rooms are all in one place, so there's no running between venues. Rooms are held from Saturday the 5th through to Monday the 7th. There's nothing for you to book and nothing to pay.

Practical things

Questions you might have

Why are you asking so early?
Only so we can hold the right number of rooms. It takes a minute, you can change your answer whenever you like, and it genuinely helps us.
How cold does Corbett get in December?
December in Corbett averages about 21°C by day and falls to around 8°C at night. Almost everything — the Haldi, the Sangeet, the Phere, dinner — happens outdoors on the lawns, and the evenings are genuinely cold. Bring more layers than you think you need; a shawl or a jacket over the finery is normal here, not a failure of planning. Long-run December averages for the area. Any given year varies.
Are children invited?
Very much so. Please include them in your numbers when you RSVP so we can plan rooms and food properly.
What should we wear?
Indian festive, and warm. Bear in mind the Haldi is poolside in the afternoon and the Sangeet, Phere and dinner are all on the lawn after dark — so something you can layer over matters more than usual. We'll add a note by function nearer the time.
Can we change our answer later?
Yes. Open the same link we sent you and update it — it will remember what you told us last time.
Who do we ask about anything else?
Reply on the WhatsApp message that brought you here and it reaches the right person.

One small thing

Will you be there?

Three taps, and it means we can hold your room. Please use the personal link from your invitation message so we know it's you.

Open the RSVP

We'd love to know by 20 October.
